In the time of Kargil War, India wanted to use GPS to get some vital information but in this crucial time US refused to give access to GPS. After that, India realized the importance of a satellite navigation system.
After the Incident, India started working on their very own satellite navigation system and after two decades they completed this project and launched their own satellite navigation system called NavIC.
What is NavIC?
NavIC is India’s very own satellite navigation system launched in 2018. NavIC stands for Navigation with Indian Constellation, which means “sailor” in Hindi. NavIC is the name given by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After this launch, India became the fourth country to have their own satellite navigation system.
Why NavIC is better than GPS?
NavIC have seven satellites covering India and surroundings and it is considered as more accurate that GPS. NavIC provides a standard position accuracy of 5 meters to all users as compared to GPS’s 20-30 meters.
If we discuss some technical information, then NavIC is much advanced and powerful than GPS as NavIC system has dual frequency (S and L bands) while GPS is dependent only on L band.
NavIC is now introduced in many smartphones including India’s biggest smartphone company, Xiaomi. RealMe follow up Xiaomi and implemented NavIC in their latest smartphones.
