Telegram is a privacy-friendly chat application with amazing features that no competitor can offer. It is founded by the same person who started Russian twitter called VKontakte.
In this article, I am explaining Telegram encryption working in simple terms. If you’re an advanced telegram user or a developer then I would suggest reading the official telegram’s guide on MProto’s Encryption instead of reading this guide. Telegram uses end-to-end encryption for all the voice calls done through their app. According to Wikipedia, Messages, and media in Telegram are only client-server encrypted and stored on the servers by default. It doesn’t provide end-to-end encryption to chats and media by default.
However, there’s an additional feature in Telegram called Secret chat which provides highly secured end-to-end encryption with bank-level security. All the messages sent through secret chat are end-to-end encrypted with SHA-256 encryption.
Here’s the chart explaining the whole concept:
I hope you now understand how telegram encryption work with this easy-to-understand guide. Thanks for reading, do share with your colleagues.
