Google One VPN launched in Mexico and the United Kingdom

Google One is the company’s subscription service that gives users unlimited cloud storage for photos and videos, along with access to Google Play Music and an exclusive Google Assistant. The subscription costs $1.99 per month or $19.99 annually. Google announced the Google One VPN service in October 2020 as an add-on feature with the storage plan. It was initially launched and tested in the United States.

After the successful trial, Google launched Google One VPN in 6 countries including Mexico, Canada, and the United Kingdom. In order to avail of this Google One VPN service add-on, you need to purchase the 2TB storage plan ($9.99/month or $99.99/year in the US) or more.

Google launched the Google One VPN feature as an add-on in the following countries:

  1. Mexico
  2. United Kingdom
  3. France
  4. Germany
  5. Spain
  6. Italy
  7. Canada
  8. United States

It joins the existing 10% cashback offer for Google Store purchases and can be accessed via the Google One for Android app. There’s also a handy Quick Settings toggle, and you can opt-out of the persistent notice.

All of your internet traffic, regardless of application or browser, will be encrypted to protect you on insecure networks (such as public Wi-Fi) and to conceal your IP address. Google assured the users that they will “never use the VPN connection to track, log, or sell your browsing activity.”

Following its introduction in the United States late last year, the Google One VPN is now available in Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, for a total of eight nations. It is still being rolled out in those additional places.

While the silicon valley giant, cautions that VPN by Google One will not connect while traveling in unsupported countries, it is targeted at security rather than location swapping.
